Dear Parents & Guardians

I hope that this message finds you and your families safe and well. Thank you for registering your child for First Communion and Confirmation 2021 in Ferrybank & Slieverue Parishes.

Many of you have been asking what is the story with our plans and dates for for First Communion and Confirmation this year?

The answer is as follows:

On the Registration Form which you filled in for your child, it was explained that dates and plans were subject to change at any time. All of us hoped that the situation would improve and allow us to celebrate in May.

However the recent Government announcement which did relax some restrictions does not permit Communions or Confirmations to go ahead during the month of May. (You can check out the current government advice by clicking here).

I understand this news is very frustrating and disappointing for you but the advice is clear and we have to be conscious of the need for caution.

At the moment it would be very unfair and only cause further confusion to suggest new dates for First Confession, First Communion and Confirmation and then to have to change them again. It is better for now  that we keep the situation under review and hopefully before too long I will be back to you with better news.

Until then I encourage you to keep supporting your child in taking part in the myfaith.ie programme and well done to all who are using it at home! Thank you to our Teachers who are doing great work in school and once again, I thank you for your patience in these days as we try to work towards the future.

Let’s do everything we can to prevent the spread of Covid so that restrictions can continue to be eased and we can gather to celebrate together these special events in the faith life of your child.

yours sincerely

Fr Kieran
